Season dates

Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu, the largest of the four Niseko United areas, has published a tentative 2026/27 operating period of 28 November 2026 to 5 May 2027, with night skiing planned from 12 December 2026 to 22 March 2027. Opening depends on snowfall and can slip. The other three areas publish their own dates; check each resort for the exact days.

The hiring timeline

Employers plan headcount in summer. On niseko.jobs, winter 2026/27 roles began appearing in August 2026. Several current listings state a start of 1 to 3 December and run to the end of March; some end with the season in early May. Late applications still find roles as employers back-fill through December and January.

What a season is like

  • Early December: training, uniforms, housing move-in, first snow. Quieter shifts before the holiday rush.
  • Late December to mid-February: the busiest weeks. Hospitality and guest-service roles run long days; days off are scheduled, not spontaneous.
  • March: volumes ease, the snow is still deep, and this is when most seasonal staff get their best riding.
  • April: many contracts end; year-round businesses and summer operators start recruiting.

Deep snow is the point of Niseko and the practical reality of living there: snow clearing, slow roads and cold. Housing near your workplace matters more than it does in most resorts.

Common questions

Is it too late to apply in November?
No. Employers back-fill through December and January as plans change. Housing-included roles are the first to go, so a late applicant should be flexible on housing and role.
Do winter contracts run the whole season?
Most do, from early December to late March or the season close. Some employers offer shorter mid-season contracts; the listing states the period.
